Ingredients :

  • Rice flour : 1 cup
  • Green chillies : 6-7
  • Salt: as per taste
  • Jeera : 1 tblspn
  • Chana dal : 2 tblspn
  • Curry leaves : few (chopped)
  • Coriander leaves : few (chopped)
  • Butter : 3 tblspn
  • Onion : 1
  • Oil : for deep fry

Preparations:

Grind green chillies ,1/2 tblspn jeera and onion coarsely using a mixer.

Soak chana dal In water for 15 mins .

Take a bowl add rice flour , chilli and onion paste , sufficient salt , soaked chana dal , 1/2 tblspn jeera , butter , chopped curry leaves and coriander leaves.

Mix them well with out any lumps .slowly add water little by little to the mixture to make it in the form of a soft dough . Just soft enough that when pressed with your hands in the form of a chekka it should not break at the edges.

Method:

Heat Oil in a heavy bottomed vessel for deep frying . Take a small lemon size ball of dough. Place it on a plastic sheet on which a little oil is applied . Make into a 2" round circles using your fingers . Once the oil is heat , test the oil by adding a pinch of dough to it .once the oil bubbles , slowly peel the circle made with your hand and drop it into the oil. You can fry 5-6 chekkalu for one time on a medium vessel . Keep turning them to both sides once a while during the time of frying.Once they turn golden brown ,remove from the oil using a slotted laddle and place them on an oil absorbent paper .Cool them and store in a air-tight container.

Tips / Points to Remember

Add water little by little while making the dough . If the dough is too soft the chekkalu will break.

I am a very big follower of your videos .When ever my mom is not available on call or what ever she doesn't know i will check out your recipes and let her also know how to do those .I am very happy to send you a recipe . I learned this recipe from my mother .I dont have any video of this but I am sending you the pictures taken at the time of preparation as the attachments to the mail.
