Recipe Text

Ingredients:

(Online Conversion utility to convert Gms to Cups & Temperatures etc)

Basic Preparation:

Break a coconut and remove the kernel from the shells. Remove the brown portion by peeling it with a peeler. Cut the coconut into small pieces. Grate the coconut by grinding the coconut pieces in a mixer grinder. When we remove the brown potion and then grate the coconut, we get white colored grated coconut.

Preparations:

Take a plate and add some ghee to it. Smear the ghee all over the plate. Powder the cardamom seeds in a mortar & pestle. Cover the cardamom seeds powder till use to retain the aroma.

Method:

Heat a pan and add grated coconut. Fry the grated coconut on low flame stirring. Fry till the coconut is slightly dry. Add milk and cook on medium to high flame stirring all through. Cook till the mixture is thick and bubbles start appearing. Then add sugar and sweetened condensed milk. Mix the mixture well and cook stirring. Take care while stirring the mixture as the splashes from the milk mixture may hurt the skin. On cooking the mixture reduces into a thick Khoa. Then add cardamom powder and mix well. Cook the mixture stirring till it starts leaving the sides of the pan. Then transfer the mixture to ghee smeared plate and spread evenly with the ladle. Cool this mixture for a while. When the mixture is warm to touch, start making laddoos. Take a fistful of the mixture and make laddoo by pressing between fingers. Place the prepared laddoos in a plate and let them cool completely. Serve the tasty laddoos to your near and dear ones.

Points to Notice:

Peel the brown portion of the coconut kernel with a peeler and then grind to get white colored grated coconut.

Measurements given in the recipe may be altered according to taste. That is sugar and condensed milk may be adjusted according to taste.

Using condensed milk reduces the making time and simplifies the process.

Store cardamom powder in a box with lid to retain the aroma or powder them just before adding to the milk mixture.

Fry the grated coconut only on low flame otherwise it will get burnt. Dry roast the grated coconut, stirring all the while. In this recipe stirring is more important as it will prevent the mixture from sticking to the pan and getting burnt.

After adding milk cook on medium to high flame but remember to stir the mixture. At the same time, take care while stirring as splashes of the mixture may hurt the skin. If required reduce the flame in between and cook the mixture.

Laddoos taste excellent when they are fresh. Preparing theses laddoos is very easy as we are using condensed milk. So make them fresh as and when desired and relish.

Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vasu Garu,

You may put milk and cook stirring till the milk evaporates and the mixture comes together.

500ml milk with 100grms sugar gives 200grms condensed milk

Yes, you may use dry coconut powder for the recipe. It would have a slight coconut oil flavour.

Rekha Garu,

Thanks for your feedback. In India, frozen shredded coconut is not available. I use fresh coconut.

Depending upon the size of each ladoo, the number would vary
