Recipe Text


Ingredients:

    • Peanuts – 125gms (2/3Cup)
    • Salt – 1Tbsp
    • Water – 1/2Cup


    (Online Conversion utility to convert Gms to Cups & Temperatures etc)

    Method:

    Take a microwave safe coffee cup and add half cup of water. Add 1Tbsp of salt to water in the cup and mix well. Then add peanuts and mix with a spoon and ensure that all the peanuts are fully immersed in water. Place this cup in microwave oven and cook on high power for 2 minutes. Meanwhile place a strainer in a bowl and keep it nearby. After 2 minutes, transfer the semi-cooked peanuts along with water into the strainer and drain. Shake the strainer to remove excess water. Take a microwave safe plate and spread the prepared peanuts in it. Spread peanuts evenly to form a single layer. Place this plate in microwave oven and roast on high power for 3 minutes. Without bringing the plate out, stir the peanuts once and spread them again in a single layer. Again roast the peanuts on high power for 2 minutes. At this stage try and fix the roasting time by increasing or decreasing depending on the microwave oven one is using. Again without removing the plate from oven stir once. Close the oven door and allow 15 minutes standing time. After 15 minutes remove the plate from oven and the salted peanuts are ready to serve. Take a roasted peanut and rub between fingers to remove the outer cover. Observe that the peanut gets a light brown color. Serve them with tea, coffee, fruit juices or as it is and enjoy at any time of the day. 

    Points To Observe:


    It is important to take a narrow microwave safe coffee cup so that all the peanuts can be immersed in water.

    A microwave safe cup means a cup which is not having any gold rim also works as we are just cooking for 2 minutes(as it is just warming).

    After cooking the peanuts for 2 minutes observe that all the peanuts have salty flavor and they would be semi cooked. When we drain the water we would not find any trace of salt left.

    Do not bring the plate out of the oven to stir as there would be heat loss.

    Roasting times may vary from oven to oven. So, first 3 minutes roasting is mandatory. The next roasting time may vary between one and two minutes. After trying for few times, depending on the microwave oven one is using, one may fix the roasting time.

    Open the oven door after final roasting and observe that the peanuts are soft to touch. So stir once and close the door and allow 15 minutes standing time before removing the plate from the oven.

    When eaten with the skin they taste more salty compared to eaten without skin. Eat as per choice.

    The quantity of peanuts mentioned in the recipe, are just sufficient to spread evenly in a single layer in a plate.

    If one wishes to make a larger batch, give 5 to 10 minutes gap so that there won’t be any pressure on the magnetron of microwave oven.

    Serve it any time of the day.
