My Vantillu (Kitchen)

Enjoy Cooking -- Enjoy Serving --  Enjoy Eating --  Eat Fresh -- Eat Limited -- Eat Regularly -- Stay Healthy -- Stay Fit
I am hosting Video Recipes which I normally prepare in my "VANTILLU" (Kitchen). I use both Gas Stove & Micro-wave Oven. You would also find me using standard measuring cups and a small weighing scale for Precision Cooking (See Kitchen Aids). I'm providing a recipe convertor on my all my recipe-pages to facilitate  to convert measurements from grams to cups or temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit etc. For more sophisticated conversions based on densities a link to online converter is also provided in each page.

The recipes shown in my webiste are prepared from commonly available vegetables, pulses, cereals, spices. These recipes are cooked in my ordinary kitchen.

My intention is to wean away people from Restaurants and Packaged Foods, while encouraging them to prepare "Home made Food". Through lucid explanation of culinary tips I want to make cooking, a simple fun. Cooking at home and feeding the family members with these tasty dishes brings in healthy life-style. Families that Eats together and Prays together Stays together.

In each recipe, I discuss the proportions of all ingredients (except salt which is to be added as per individual's choice). If these ingredients are put in the suggested proportions and all the steps are followed, as shown in the video, you should surely succeed in replicating the dish which I prepared in my kitchen. And... this serves my objective!!!

I am a Vegetarian, with an exception in using egg for some cakes (which I hope to replace gradually). I don't do any other non-vegetarian recipes.

My video narration is in Telugu while the recipe text is in English. By reading the text and watching my video, Non-Telugus would also be able to follow the recipe. In short, language in the videos shouldn't be a barrier to understand what I want to convey through my videos. For more details you may read "Why My Videos are in Telugu?"

It would be nice if you BLOG your outcomes on the recipes you attempted. If you have succeeded, let others know - so that they can also confidently try that recipe. If you failed, then also let the world know, so that others would take the requisite precautions before attempting the new dish. Your blogging gives me an opportunity to identify the pit falls, if any, and suggest corrective measures. I encourage blogging and would respond faster to the queries raised there. I have decided not to respond to queries on Youtube, because often these queries are raised without the viewers going through the text of the recipe given on the website.

Mine is a one woman show where I am the Chef, Director, Photographer, Playback, Sound Mixer, Editor and what not? I have adopted photo shoot mode to host my recipes. In this method, I am literally able to carry the camera with my left hand, into the frying pan, while the right hand is busy cooking. I am able to clearly show the action in the frying pan for every step. It would be difficult to hold a movie camera all through with one hand and it cannot go as close to the frying pan as a still camera does (because the water vapor blinds the lenses). Through this photo shoot method, I also believe that my viewers attention would remain focused on the recipe only and its ingredients and chemistry action in the frying pan. It doesn't get distracted to what I wear, how I look, what interior my kitchen has etc. Thus, I feel photo-shoot-style is more functional compared to a movie mode.

I belong to an Indian economic middle-class. My Kitchen, Utensils and Kitchen Aids also represent the same. The gadgets are functionally oriented rather than fashionable. Some of them are older to our wedding date!!! Their displays would be average. Emphasis of my video would be more on the recipe content, exact measurements of ingredients , process involved etc. My videos lack the lustre of costly cut-glass and ceramic ware under arc-lamps.

Eat daily Good Delicious Home made Food in Limited quantities so as to "Live Longer to Eat" . Adopt Life Style Change to maintain good "FIGURE and HEALTH". Enjoy the fun of simple cooking.

Do physical exercise everyday to be healthy.Try to manage your home without servants, maids and cooks!!

Click here to get Flash Player plug-in for your browser so as to see my videos. If needed download Java plug-in to make convertor functional on the web-pages. You also need to have audio devices for my audio playback.

!!!! Enjoy Your Life in its Full !!!!

But unfortunately I'm not a qualified nutritionist and a therapist to host all these with authenticiy and right now I am too busy with the recipes on hand. May be on retirement from video making ...... I would attempt it

Harita Garu,

Thanks for your compliments. Mine is a one-woman-show. While the right hand is busy cooking, left hand clicks the photgraphs on a digital camera. Thereafter I add voice and background music to the photos to bundle it into a movie. Hence you don't find me there !!

Nice meeting you

Hello Priya Garu,

Chillie products in limited quantities are good for heart. Therefore I try to put them into dishes in a paste form or powder form so that family members cannot discard while eating. Whole red chillies are easily identified and discarded while eating. Similarly if that one red chillie is chewed inadvertently its consequences are known to us.
Among the chilli products also my order of preference is green chillie paste, chillie powder and whole red chillies. The reason is - In India, while growing chillies farmers use lot of pesticides. There is a pesticide residue on the red chillies which we cannot wash before using in the curries. In the trade off between good and bad for health - green chillies score more compared to red chillies and hence you find the bias towards green chilli paste.

Not in all dishes green chillies work - like sorakaya iguru koora, Potlakaya koora, Beerakaaya Koora etc. We have to put red chilles only.

Bye

Hi Gayatri garu

I have been to ur website thru 'youtube' videos. I stay abroad so have been missing 'achanga teluginti vantillu' maahol, which needless to say has been fulfilled by your dedicated site :-)

Only one suggestion wud be, plz try to make ur video clips while in action rather than just photos, its more easier to upload than collecting and uploading all those photos,...as u had mentioned in ur site, like one of ur inspirations manjulas kitchen or vah reh vah websites.

I am glad to have added u along those 2 websites into my favourites section!

All the best in all ur endeavours.

Hello Pratima Garu,

Thanks for your mail. Let me share a few secrets, as to why in Gayatrivantiilu, the style is photo shoot mode only. Its a one woman show where I am the Chef, Director,Photographer, Playback, Sound Mixer, Editor and what not.By adopting the photo shoot mode, I am literally able to take the camera with my left hand into the frying pan, while the right hand is busy cooking. I am able to clearly show the action in the frying pan .A movie camera cannot go as close to the frying pan as a still camera does, because the water vapour blinds the lenses. In addition, by adopting this mode, my viewers attention is focused on the recipe and its ingredients. It doesn't get distracted to what I wear, how I look, what interior my kitchen has etc. Thus, I feel photo shoot mode is more functional and less fashion oriented. It doesn't mean I am against video shoots. I don't have a movie camera and don't feel its necessity for Gayatrivantillu.

Everday, I literally race against time, to make one recipe. Ofcourse I enjoy it. I definitely have in line pidivantalu and chirutillu to be hosted. It would take some time and I hope you would bear the delay

Thanks for your concern and alerting me on the site hosting my video/s, without my permission. It is only one of the many sites that are resorting to such bad practices. I only hope, all these people read my article on Bhikshaam Dehi at http://www.gayatrivantillu.com/bhikshaamdehi and have a soul search as to whether they are depriving some revenue to the underprivileged, because they do not have links to SOS and Akshaya Patra web-sites

Jyothi Garu,

I had been to your colourful website / Blogs. They are very attractive. You are dealing with a variety of topics and the blog is a boquet of recipes from other sites also.

You may provide my web link of www.gayatrivantillu.com but not host my recipes and video on your blog, because I would like to retain the exclusivity. I would be able to provide a link to your website, if you contribute a video recipe to my Porigintivantalu

I propose to host our correspondence in my blog which would provide the text llink right away. Eventually they would be moved to manamaatalu

Thanks for your e-mail.

Hello Gayatri Garu,

I am a student pursuing Masters in US. I am extremely fond of food. I have recently browsed your site and thoroughly enjoyed your recipes. But I have a small question. I have found all your receipes made with good amount of oil. This might make a dish tasty. But Is there some other way to prepare tasty food with less oil?

I was having an hunch as to why this question is not yet posted by my viewers and it has come atlast!!!

While showing oil in the "ingredients" I show a glass bowl full of oil though I narrate it as 3 or 4 or 5 teaspoons of oil. Often the picture registers in the minds and viewers are likely to mistake that I am putting that much oil in the curries.

The reality is if one puts 3 or 4 teaspoons of oil in a pan, it just coats the bottom of the pan barely sufficient for frying the seasoning. The very purpose of using micro-wave is to reduce the oil consumption to almost half or even less!!!

Its difficult to show 4 teaspoons of oil in a bowl, because in photos its not clear and viewers are likely to mistake that an empty bowl is being shown without oil. secondly while transfering it to the pan during cooking half of it stuck to the container. Thus the viewers are requested to go by the narration and not the image of "OIL" in the ingredients while watching my recipes.

My entire effort is on LESS OIL COOKING but not on oil less cooking!!! If some of viwers can suggest other practical methods in reducing the oil furhter they are requsted to share the same on the blog for the common benefit.

Renu Garu,

Thanks for the feedback. As my husband is diabetic, I needed to cut-down on the oil for which I have adapted Micro-wave cooking in my day to day life. You may therefore use the ordinary stove also while cooking, but with little moderation as the situation demands.
